The purpose of life is working for prosperity-for-all. Sikhs call this 'Sarbat-da-Bhala'.
Life is about universal salvation instead of personal salvation.
The purpose of life is to serve others sensibly. Serve your family, community, and people. Protect people, natural world, and civilizational values (cultural conservative) instead of allowing them to be hijacked by those that benefit from your ignorance, apathy, emptiness, and atomization.
Serving others does not mean welfare state or big caring government or socialism in any form. Welfare State is inefficient model that uses monopoly of violence of the State to steal from those who are productive, to give to those who are dysfunctional. Sikh religion does not approve of welfare state. There is private, voluntary, non-government, donation based social security model based around the Gurdwara. Gurdwara and its social security is neither charity, nor welfare state. The key is no government involvement.
Serving others does not mean senseless generosity throwing money at people in feel-good stunts or randomly paying someone’s fees or distributing free clothes or giving free food to the unappreciative or constructing huge building or sponsoring institutions that are functionally empty. That is just moral self-indulgence that just makes us feel good without bringing any benefit to others.
Life is not about living an easy consumerist life for yourself or escaping your responsibilities by running to the wilderness or meditating in a cave or living in isolation or being a nomad.
Serve others while enjoying everyday family life in your community.
